We're sure that women over 50 looking for helpful skin care tips have heard all about it. How their skin is not producing collagen like it used to, and that elasticity tends to fade, and that they should be using sunscreen... So, we'll forgo all of that and dive into real, simple, and helpful tips that will make a big difference to your skin.
FRIEND or FOAM?
If it foams, it usually has a surfactant which strips away moisture and natural oils. Instead, wash your face with an oil-based wash or milk cleanser. These types of cleansers do more than just clean your face — they act as facial hydrating treatments, softening and protecting skin with their emollient ingredients.
OIL is Your FRIEND
We cannot stress enough the potency and nourishing quality of omega-3-rich oils. These oils multi-task as antioxidants, strengthening the immune system and removing free radicals. In addition, they have an amazing effect on your complexion making it bright, dewy and luminescent.
EYE love you
Eye cream is important at any age, though it becomes vital once reaching 50. Here’s a tip: apply eye cream not just around the immediate eye area, but extend that circle to include your cheekbone and temple — which is where crow’s feet start showing.
For the Neck DOWN
After showering, do not towel yourself completely dry. Rather, apply a mixture of body oil and moisturizer together onto your wet skin. The oil & moisturizer combo will seal in the water and keep your skin moisturized for a full 24 hours. This will also help prevent the buildup of dry scaly skin.
Drop the DEAD (skin) WEIGHT
Exfoliate your skin 3–5 times a week. If using a scrub, be sure to choose one with very fine granules. Another great tip is to mix some facial oil into the scrub to get added benefit of hydration while you exfoliate. Remember: exfoliate lightly in circular motions for no more than one minute. Rinse with warm water and immediately apply a rich, hydrating mask.
BONUS TIP! ICE, ICE Baby
If your skin feels puffy, irritated or inflamed, try mixing half a cup of crushed ice, the contents of one packet of chamomile tea, and 2 tablespoons of regular table sugar and massage onto face for 1 minute. This will go a long way to relieve redness, irritation and bloated appearance. It’s also great as a remedy after a long flight or a spirited night out.
